The Wycherley family established themselves in Sutton-in-Ashfield as a family run independent ophthalmic opticians practice in 1952 when Kenneth Alan Wycherley took over the practice which had been run by Martin Radford since 1928. Since 1977 the business has been continued in the same family tradition by his daughter Janet.
Previously Alan had worked both with his eldest brother Harold in Bolsover, who was a chemist/optician and with his other brother Eric who was a chemist in Worksop.
Janet studied at The City University in London from 1972-75 gaining a BSc in Ophthalmic Optics before working in SE London during her pre registration period and then moving back to Notts to join her father Alan in partnership in the Brook Street practice.
Semi retirement soon led to full retirement for Alan with Janet working full time until the birth of her first child, Martin in 1982 followed by Caroline in 1986. During this period Janet’s first husband Tim Alderton worked as the full time optometrist in the practice and Janet was part time. This carried on until their divorce in the mid 1990’s and the dissolving of their partnership in 1996.
Since then Janet has worked with different dispensing opticians, a locum optometrist Elisabeth Brown and contact lens fitter Lesley Parkinson to provide the various aspects of professional optical services we need to offer to our clients.
In March 2009 we were all very much saddened by the sudden death of our Dispensing Optician, Simon Clark who had been with us since 2003.
We have now taken on Juliet Severn as our qualified dispensing optician and she will be pleased to discuss your specific optical needs and recommend ways to address them. Before she took time out to have her 2 children Ju worked with us from 1997-2003 as our full time dispensing manager.
